Writing with our Hearts is aimed to work some of my students of I.E.S N° 9-011 "Del Atuel", from San Rafael, Mendoza.

Being more specific, this BLOG has been designed for a group of learners attending English Language III, a third-year subject of the English Teaching Training Course.

The underlying idea is to publish their pieces of writing so as to reinforce cooperative learning among them and to share with the visitors their interest in literature and discussion.

Seeking for knowledge production, the writers will post here the final versions of their personal responses and interpretation to literature, and their persuasive essays.

Adopted the Process Approach to Writing, each  student has given his/her personal responses to two literary works: one based on "A Private Talk with Holly" by Henry  Gregor Felsen and the other on "The Little Prince," Antoine De Saint Exupery's masterpiece.

To explore and read behind lines, my students have  expressed their interpretation of "The Lady, or the Tiger? by Frank Stockton, a meaningful, satirical fairy tale, as well as of the well-known allgorical fable "The Little Prince."

Testing their skill to convince other, the learners  have also written a persuasive essay on a controversial issue that, for their opinion, deserves debate.

Feeling proud of my students' output, Writing with our Hearts has been created to open a window to show what they are able to write in English.

Persuasive Essays

Don't you just love it when you can argue with someone and get them to come around to your way of thinking? That is what a persuasive essay is all about!

The goal of persuasion is to win acceptance of your ideas when others, for whatever reason, don't agree with you. The argument itself makes us take a closer look t our own and others' ideas more carefully.

Wach this video to get the idea clear.

Writing a persuasive essay also  helps us to consider the claims of the opposition fairly and to justify our own position.

To learn more about this, listen to this American teacher who explains the paragraphs that constitute a good persuasive essay.

Interpretation to Literature

When writing an interpretative essay, you should closely examine a literary work to exlore its meaning and develop your opinion about what the writer tries to communicate.

While there may be no right or wrong interpretation for a work of literature, an interprettion may be valid or invalid.

Validity relies on evidence, so you should provide supporting ideas that may be taken from the work itself, from related works, or from your personal experience.

Personal Response to Literature

The key to write a good personal response to literature is to be specific.Tell exactly how the story made you feel and precisely what thoughts it stirred in you. Use language that is specific and concrete rather than general, vague, or abstract.

Evaluating a text (short story, novelette, novel, play or movie) implies examples from the work in itself to back up your points. You might, in addition, include quotations from other works or from other critics.

While it is acceptabe to cite a personal experience related to the analysed masterpiece, be careful to keep your focus on it, not on thoughts about your own life.
